Resonance boards
Resonance boards are a focal point for Soundabout activities and are invaluable for bringing a group together. With children sitting or lying on or around them, staff and children can create sound and rhythm games together and build sound conversations. If children lie on the board, they can feel the sound resonating through their whole body. The boards create a space in which pupils will become actively involved in creative opportunities for communication and well-being. Soundabout can make resonance boards for you, or give you instructions for making your own.

Interactive music techniques using resonance boards – foundation
This training course teaches staff to use Soundabout’s interactive musical techniques using resonance boards, rhythm and voice. Staff will learn to plan and lead Soundabout sessions, motivating responses from the students and using these to build meaningful communications. The course is a mixture of workshops for the key trainees and in- classroom sessions involving the students and other staff members. It is aimed at all staff working with students with PMLD, SLD, ASD and MSI at P levels 1-4.

Interactive music techniques using resonance boards – further development
As part of ongoing support, Soundabout offers extended training to help Soundabout practioners to develop the work they are already doing, giving them new inspiration and fresh ideas. This training is personalised to suit your needs and designed for staff who are already practising Soundabout techniques and wish to extend their use.

Soundabout into the curriculum - a themed approach
This training builds upon previous training to add a new dimension to Soundabout methods and techniques. The trainer will demonstrate how the introduction of themed sessions as part of a broader planned or spontaneous theme can begin to establish a connection between Soundabout communication sessions and the wider curriculum, whilst retaining the essential qualities that enable all children to actively influence their environment.

Soundabout Making Stories
Using Soundabout's methods in a group, circle or on a resonance board, Making Stories is an exciting way of extending the use of simple musical ideas to build a connection between the teller and listener. Children learn both how to be co-creators and how to listen and be an audience, and the work develops memory, listening, learning and comprehension. The stories may originate from the students' own input, using their experiences or imagination, or can be based around familiar stories and books. They can be recorded, either onto CD or in book form. The training is aimed at all staff working with children with PMLD, SLD and ASD.
