Soundabout has developed a highly focused Songwriting training package which will enable staff to work with students of all abilities to create and record songs. The training teaches staff to use simple musical techniques to facilitate the creation of songs from the students’ own input, as well as helping them develop their recording skills.
The ideas and inspiration come entirely from the sounds created by the students, while the facilitator provides the stimulation and simple musical input to turn their ideas into songs. You do not need to be an accomplished musician to lead these sessions! Students with a wide range of abilities can contribute to the song and everyone can have the chance to lead the way. Songwriting promotes a positive self-image and often leads to improvements in peer relationships.
The singing and song creation are immensely enjoyable and stimulating and every student will have a permanent record of their creation. Students derive great pride and pleasure from listening to their songs and parents, too, really appreciate having a lasting record that celebrates their child’s achievements. Writing and recording songs will also provide you with a valuable way of capturing and monitoring a student’s development and progress.
Training takes a close look at musical techniques, approaches to working with different groups and individuals and how to get most out of your recording equipment. It is designed for anyone working with students with PMLD, SLD, ASD or EBD.
Recording equipment
Songwriting training was developed using equipment supplied by Roland UK who continue to support the development of Songwriting in special schools. Details of the equipment can be obtained from the Soundabout office.
