Inclusive Choir – Gloucestershire

A musical community without barriers!

The Soundabout Inclusive Choir for Gloucestershire is run in partnership with the Chamwell Centre. We welcome people of all ages and all abilities, and their families.

The choir celebrates that everyone has their own way of sharing their voice. Here are a few examples of ways you could join in:

  • Using Makaton signing
  • Singing or other vocal noises
  • Making sounds with an instrument or sound maker
  • Using technology e.g. an iPad or EyeGaze
  • Movement and dance

By welcoming all voices we aim to be as inclusive as possible, and actively try to remove barriers to participation from those with severe and profound learning disabilities.

The choir sings songs chosen by members and occasionally writes their own songs. Every piece of music is designed so that members can be involved in their own way.

Get involved!

The choir is free to join, there are no auditions, and you do not need to be able to read music notation.

We are offering a mixture of face-to-face and virtual rehearsals so that you can join in however is best for you!

Our face-to-face rehearsals take place at The Chamwell Centre. These are running in a hybrid way so you can still join online via zoom if you like.

Our virtual only rehearsals are hosted on zoom.

We meet every two weeks, alternating between Zoom sessions and hybrid (in person and Zoom) sessions.

Meet the choir leaders

Becca graduated from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in 2018 with a BMus Hons. Although the French horn was her primary focus, she had a developing interest in providing music for communities and people with additional needs. Becca has been part of the Soundabout team for just over a year and has loved every aspect of it so far.

Manon completed her Audio and Music Technology BSc degree in 2021 at the University of the West of England. She is now working at The Music Works in their Gloucester hub as a junior studio engineer and music leader, helping children and people of all abilities to enjoy music in inclusive ways. Manon recently starting working with Soundabout and is excited to be a part of the Gloucestershire inclusive choir.
