Memory Tree

Remembering Soundabouters who are no longer with us.

Thomas Hall

Thomas Hall’s parents John and Sarah founded Soundabout in his memory. Thomas suffered from multiple disabilities but his family discovered that he could communicate through music. Sadly, Thomas died aged just 16 and in his memory John and Sarah founded Soundabout so that others like him could access and benefit from the joys of music.

In 2021 we also very sadly said goodbye to Sarah Hall, Thomas’s mother, who died after a long illness. She was a truly remarkable individual, and a great friend of Soundabout from its inception. We are so grateful for all the musical joy that Thomas and Sarah have inspired over 25 years.

Margot Starley

Margot loved her sessions and got so much from them – she always had a nap afterwards which showed us how stimulating she had found them. They gave us so many good ideas to use with her outside of sessions too.

Margot also took part in some of the YouTube live sessions before her Mondays were taken up by school and completely loved these too, especially hearing her name which made her face light up and her vocalising. We often watched these back and she always engaged so well.

Margot died in July 2021, aged four. She had Cockayne Syndrome Type 2. We will continue to enjoy music in her memory.

There are a number of organisations available offering resources and support to those dealing with a bereavement:
