Behind the Glow: The Young Artists Shaping Our Winter Campaign

This summer, Soundabout’s talented Emerging Leaders, and Graduate Emerging Leaders, have been hard at work – envisioning, composing, and recording the brand-new song, Glow, for our winter Sparkle with Soundabout campaign.

The creative journey began with a hybrid session, taking place in-person at Warminster Civic Centre, while other members of the group collaborated remotely. The young artists explored sensory resources, music technology, instruments, chord sequences, and descriptive words for inspiration. Their collective creativity sparked the foundation of the song that we now know as Glow.

Next, the group headed to the state-of-the-art studios at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire to bring their vision to life. They recorded vocals, spoken word, instrumental, and tech elements, and gained hands-on experience mixing tracks, being in the control room, and later designing the album artwork.

“Our Emerging Leaders were blown away by the studio experience and have had such a great time throughout the entire song writing process.” said Rebecca Tunley, Soundabout’s Family Support Coordinator. “They were so impressed with the studio facilities at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and at how the song sounded after we recorded all the elements, and they have been professional and creative in each stage of the process.”

The Emerging Leaders programme is designed to ensure that Learning Disabled people are represented in the music workforce, by training up the next generation and offering professional work placements. We are grateful to have been able to use the spaces at Warminster Civic Centre and Royal Birmingham Conservatoire to support their creative and professional development.
