Choir Web Hub Launched

We are delighted to announce the launch of the new Soundabout Choirs web hub. The Soundabout  Choirs are musical communities without barriers for people all ages and all abilities, with a focus on giving a voice to people with severe and profound learning disabilities.

Soundabout launched its first Choir in Oxford, 2019. Since then we have expanded to a network of 14 choirs across the UK working with local music hubs to deliver sessions both in-person and virtually.

The choir hub has been developed over the past year to help support our members musical engagement and enjoyment, as well as provide a safe space to connect to the choir community via a gallery and forum. It contains information about any choir that we run and also choir partners that we support. It is a place where people can sign up to join ‘Soundabout Choirs’ but it also has a ‘members only’ area for participants and partners which has access to the song-packs (backing tracks, signing videos, ‘widgit’ lyrics, coloured notation etc), a monitored chatroom, news area and choir related documents.

The choir hub also contains a catalogue of training recordings for those interested in developing techniques that foster inclusion within choirs. We hope that other organisations running choirs will find the song packs and training catalogue useful. We also hope the choir hub will enable more choirs to introduce simple measures to make their choirs more inclusive.

The development of the choir hub was a huge undertaking. A special well done and thank you goes to Emma and Ellen from the Soundabout team for all their hard work.

Please let us know if you have any questions or ideas for the choir hub. We’d love to hear from you.
