Danceathon Fundraiser

On Friday 29 May, our incredible Director of Programmes, Jo Colton, will be dancing for 12 hours straight, from 10am to 10pm, to raise money for Soundabout!

In celebration of her 50th birthday, Jo will be joined by her good friend Oz for a fun-filled Danceathon, with every hour bringing a new theme ranging from Inclusive Disco, to Back to the 80s, and Pop Princesses.

Jo shared with us that:

‘Soundabout is a community of the most extraordinary people who share a love of music, it’s a place to be yourself, a place where what you can do is celebrated along with each person’s unique sounds and gestures.

Soundabout is a place to belong for Learning Disabled people of all ages, their families, their carers, teachers, volunteers, staff and supporters.

I’ve worked for Soundabout for over a decade and now more than ever the connection and enjoyment that music brings to our families is so very much needed.  I can’t think of a better way to celebrate my big 5-0 than to dance with and for this wonderful community.’

Would You Like to Get Involved?

There are lots of ways you can join Jo and Oz and get involved in the Danceathon:

  • Join online via Zoom: Drop in anytime during the day and dance along from home.
  • Come along in person to Thame Barns Centre (OX9 3AJ): Everyone is welcome.
  • Help spread the word: Invite friends and family to join in, either online or in person.
  • Donate if you can: To support Jo during her incredible 12-hour challenge, while raising money for Soundabout.
  • Take on your own challenge: You can even set up your own fundraiser and dance alongside Jo and Oz.

Every pound raised during Danceathon will go towards creating inclusive music opportunities for Soundabout’s community, and ensure that even more Learning Disabled people with complex support needs can access the life-changing benefits of music and sound-making.
