The Lord Mayor of Birmingham Visits Sounds Together

On Saturday 7 February, we were delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Zafar Iqbal, and Mike Leddy, a Trustee of The Lord Mayor of Birmingham’s Charity, to our Sounds Together session at Rowheath Pavilion.

The Lord Mayor was greeted on arrival with a sung hello from our Soundabout practitioners who were leading the session. Both the Lord Mayor and Mike Leddy took part in the activities, observing one‑to‑one music making with one of our participants, before joining the wider group for singing and making music with instruments. They also spent time chatting with participants, parents, carers, practitioners, and our CEO, Holly Radford‑James.

The Lord Mayor of Birmingham’s Charity is generously supporting our Sounds Together Birmingham sessions running from January to May 2026. We are incredibly grateful for this funding, which is helping with essential costs such as equipment and refreshments, and which has made it possible for us to offer these monthly sessions. Thanks to this support, Learning Disabled people with complex support needs can come together with their parents, carers, and local community to have fun through music, while developing their social and personal skills.

Despite the rainy weather, the session was vibrant and well attended, with participants ranging from age 9 to 37. Our next monthly sessions take place on Saturday 11 April and Saturday 16 May. If you’d like to join us, you can register here:

Our heartfelt thanks go to the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, and the Trustees of The Lord Mayor of Birmingham’s Charity, for their support for Disabled people and for helping to champion the power of music and the arts.
