Graduate Emerging Leaders Learn Vox Pop Research Techniques
On 22 February, our Graduate Emerging Leaders took part in an engaging and practical workshop with Dr Tenley Martin, Senior Lecturer in Music at Leeds Beckett University. The session introduced the group to vox pop research techniques, a style of short, conversational interview designed to capture quick, authentic responses.
During the workshop, our Graduate Emerging Leaders learnt how to structure a simple vox pop exchange by:
- Inviting another group member to answer a question.
- Asking the question clearly.
- Recording the response.
- Closing the interaction with a thank you.
Held at Oxford Music Centre, where our Oxford Choir also meets, the workshop offered the perfect opportunity for the group to immediately put their new skills into action. You can see an example of the group practising their interview techniques in the video below.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and conversations are already underway about the possibility of planning a follow‑up workshop to explore additional participant‑led research methods.
