Sound of Intent within the Early Years

In March 2019, Soundabout launched a research report that revealed targeted music sessions for young children and their families in areas of high deprivation, can improve their capacity to manage and control their emotions and behaviour, boost their self-confidence, and heighten their ability to pay attention and ‘close the gap’ in regards to meeting their age-grade expectations.

Critically, the effect of targeted music became even more apparent in children with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and the impact of intervention within the early years being considerably more effective in comparison to those tried later on in adulthood.

From 2015-2018, Soundabout created and a ran a 10-week programme funded by Youth Music known as ‘Sounds of Intent within the Early Years’, for over 200 children within the early years across 27 Children Centres and specialist organisations.
